Up, packed and out by 9am - That's a record! (Miracle more like) we brought hot buns from the shop and smeared them with butter and jam - delicious! (knife was too well packed so had to use our fingers!! yuk)
Another Eagle day today, we went to Werfen which houses the castle from "where eagles dare", another excitable Rich!
Although, nervous to begin with ..."what if its just the inside they used? what if its not the iconic castle? If there is no cable car how can it be the same place?? ... but as we tuned a corner off in the distance the iconic castle appeared.
We parked at the bottom and got the epic lift up the mountain, this one was completely glass & apparently had great views of the valley below (didn't see them myself!).
We arrived just in time for a falconry display which was brilliant.
Then afterwards Ed admired the view whilst I deleted billions of photos ("memory card full").
We looked around the arsenal display (not the football one the one with guns, swords and stuff!)
then tried to get into the belfry but it was guided tours only - hmmmm "Lets go on a guided tour!?"
We had an electronic translator which talked us through the rooms as we went, all very interesting & exciting going through locked doors into places no one else gets to see!
The best bit was possibly the torture chamber, but definitely the bell tower. The clock has kept perfect time since 1987 & the bell was enormous!!
After our tour we had some chips & schnitzel burger, before heading back down the glass elevator to the van.
Rich wanted to try and get a better view of the castle, spent 20 minutes driving around before we gave up!
Off to Zell am See.
Once in Austria, Rich got overexcited again, this time it was about the price of fuel which went from 1.45 to 1.34euros - sad!
We went to a spa to buy food and they accepted Visa - loving Austria already (OK small things!)
We arrived at the camp site to find it packed to the rafters so we tried another. He turned away 3 or 4 people in front of us one with a 2 man tent the other with vans, what hope did we have? but hey worth an ask anyway?!
He said "no space" so I asked him if there was any ubernacht parking nearby"not possible", I explained we had a small van which we could sleep in and he came outside to look "enjoy camper van? - ha looks like a coke can!"
He walked round the site and found a spot we could squeeze into - result!
Off to the beach for a swim in the lake - bliss- much cooler.
After a good swim, a play in the park apparently it was time for dinner, cooking in our tiny spot would be difficult so we splashed out again on pommes and a cheese and ham toastie to share.
Then back to the van for pudding (Jam roly poly)
