Monday 16th July - Day 1 to Bruge

Before we could hit Europe, we went to Aylesbury to buy a flag pole!!! priorities?

I managed to convince Rich that a 9m flagpole was a bit over the top and we settled for 7m!!

We then managed to get lost coming out of morrisons car park, was this an omen for our navigation in europe, I hope not.

Arrived at the channel tunnel an hour early, so plenty of time to buy phrase books and travel guides.  We then foolishly asked Amelie to take a photo as we boarded the train. Lets just say we could do a stop frame animation of the entire boarding :0) We then spent most of the 35min journey deleting excess photos, a good start.

We had great plans of calling into Dunkirk en route, but as we left Calais in the pouring rain we put that on hold and headed straight for Bruge where there was finally a let up in the weather.
We drove into a lovely square before realising that cars were not allowed so pulled over to back out. Amelie spotted loads of horse drawn carriages so she and I jumped out and went to have a look, the square was lovely, surrounded by little cafes and bars and romantic carriages in the centre. The rain started again so we ran for and headed towards Brussels and Gent.
Just past Gent we found a service station to stop for the night.
